We prove that given a finite collection of cylinders in R^3 with the property that any two of them intersect, there isa line intersecting an alpha-fraction of the cylinders where alpha=1/14. This is a special case of an exciting and recent conjecture.

主讲人介绍：

Imre Bárány，匈牙利科学院院士、匈牙利科学院数学研究所高级研究员，AMS Fellow，2002年国际数学家大会45分钟邀请报告人。自1978年开始在匈牙利科学院工作，1998年起被伦敦大学学院（University College London）聘为教授，并在该校招收、指导博士研究生。此外，还先后被耶鲁大学、微软研究中心等十余所高校和科研院所聘为教授，担任Discreteand Computational Geometry、Combinatorica、Mathematika等多种国际权威杂志编委。

Imre Bárány院士主要从事离散几何、凸性理论、组合数学、随机多胞形、格点多胞形、代数拓扑等领域的理论研究，以及上述各领域在计算机科学、程序设计、运筹学和博弈论等领域的应用研究，取得了一系列杰出的成果，被国际同行誉为离散几何学界理论研究与应用转化相结合最成功的学者之一。先后多次应邀在国际重要学术会议上作大会邀请报告，2002年应邀在国际数学家大会上作45分钟邀请报告。研究工作先后获得Rényi Prize（1988），Prize of the Academy（1994），Award of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences （1998），Széchényi Prize（2016），主持欧洲高级研究项目1项。已在Advances in Mathematics、Mathematsche Annalen、Proceedings of the London Mathematical Society 等国际顶尖数学杂志上发表论文180余篇。
